Customer Responsibility for Car Rental in Houston, Texas
When renting a car in Houston, Texas, the customer assumes certain responsibilities from the moment the vehicle is picked up until it is returned. These conditions ensure proper use of the vehicle and protect both the customer and the company.
General Customer Responsibility
The customer is responsible for the vehicle throughout the entire rental period. This includes damage, theft, fines, tolls, and any misuse. Responsibility begins at the time of vehicle pickup and ends when it is returned.
Responsibility for Vehicle Damage
The customer will be responsible for:
- Exterior damage
- Interior damage
- Mechanical damage due to misuse
- Damage due to negligence
- Wheel or tire damage
- Loss of accessories
Depending on the insurance selected, this responsibility may be reduced.
Responsibility For Fines And Tolls
The customer agrees to pay:
- Traffic fines
- Tolls
- Parking violations
- Administrative fees ($47 USD)
Responsibility In Case Of An Accident
In case of an accident, the customer must:
- Call 911
- Notify the company
- Take photos
- Obtain a police report
The customer will be held responsible if this procedure is not followed.
Authorized Driver Responsibility
The customer is the only authorized driver. Lending the vehicle to third parties is strictly prohibited. Any damage caused by another person will be the customer’s responsibility.
Responsibility For Improper Use
The customer will be responsible if:
- Driving under the influence
- Using illegal substances
- Smoking inside the vehicle
- Transporting hazardous materials
- Using the vehicle outside the state without authorization
Responsibility For Late Return
The customer must return the vehicle on the agreed date and time. After 30 minutes, a fee of $20 USD per additional hour will apply.
Cleaning Responsibility
The customer must return the vehicle in reasonable condition. A cleaning fee of $40 USD will apply. If the vehicle is extremely dirty, the fee may be doubled.
Responsibility For Additional Miles
The customer will be responsible for additional miles:
1–100 miles: $0.49
101–499 miles: $0.39
500+ miles: $0.35
Responsibility For Lost Keys
Loss of keys will result in the loss of the minimum deposit of $300 USD.
Responsibility For GPS
Disabling or disconnecting the GPS will result in loss of the deposit and possible contract termination.
Responsibility For Out-Of-State Travel
Leaving the state without authorization constitutes a breach of contract.
Customer Financial Responsibility
The customer authorizes the company to charge for:
- Damages
- Fines
- Tolls
- Administrative fees
- Cleaning
- Additional miles
